Am I Crazy? Candida Cleansing While Quarantined
Ever Thought Candida Might be Your Problem?
Being stuck in my house, eating (okay, I’m going to admit it) less than 100% nutritious foods, I have been once again forced to come to terms with a flare-up of candida. Have you heard of it? It’s an overgrowth of yeast that can present in many ways. For me, it’s gut issues and once I learned about it, I realized that I had been dealing with it for likely most of my university years and beyond. It’s difficult to get rid of and it’s easy to come back.
Candida is a fungal/yeast infection from Candidiasis Albicans. It can live on your skin, in your respiratory tract, in your mouth, throat, and gut or in your genital area. It feeds on sugar. The more you eat, the more it wants and the stronger your cravings can get. Like I mentioned, for me, I have symptoms that affect my gut. Some other common symptoms of candida can include a white coat on the tongue, extra-strong cravings for sugar and carbs, headaches, abdominal gas and bloating, and fatigue. There are even some other things like brain fog, muscle aches and pain, and mental confusion. If this sounds like you then you may want to follow along for the next couple weeks.
I am going to endeavor to once again rebalance my microbiome. The thing is, you can never rid your body of Candida completely, but it’s important to find a balance. I have let things get a little out of control which can happen when under high amounts of stress or when there are periods of eating high carbs and sugar. For me, there’s definitely been a little bit more indulging with all this self-isolation as well as a HUGE increase in stress. Homeschooling…need I say more?
So, what’s the plan? Starting today – week one – I will be cutting out all added sugar, all simple processed carbohydrates, and high glycemic fruit. I will be focusing on high-quality protein, healthy fats and lots of veggies! I made an awesome coleslaw today that will last me a couple of days! Some of my secret weapons to fight candida include coconut oil. I like to sauté my veggies in it, and I use MCT coconut oil with some apple cider vinegar to dress my salads including my coleslaw. Coconut oil has caprylic acid in it that has antibacterial properties. What other foods have anti-microbial properties? My favorites are raw garlic and onions! Yey, self-isolation! One of my staples will be meat stock to soothe my inflamed gut lining. I’m sure you are all picking up on my level of excitement! To be honest, it’s not about joy, though I will be trying to have as much fun with this as possible, it’s about improving my health!
Believe it or not, I’m really looking forward to this! I am hoping to do this full candida cleanse for two to four weeks. I have been dealing with more inflammation than I would care to admit, and my belly has been upset. It’s time to recognize the symptoms and do something about it before things progress. It’s not going to be easy, but I know it’s SUPER important. If you would like to learn more, if this sounds similar to symptoms you may be dealing with, then let’s chat! You can join me in my quest to conquer candida during the quarantine.
