Schedule Your Events

First things first, I know that there are LOTS of events we feel we HAVE to attend over the holidays, but do we?  Today I suggest sitting down with your calendar and really evaluating all the invites you have scheduled.  I know there is at least ONE that you don’t want to go to but feel you MUST attend.  Why?  Why do we stress ourselves out?  Today I want you to scratch that event off the calendar!  Reply “NO” and if you must, blame it on me!  Tell them “My Health Coach says I need to take some stress off this holiday and, so I can no longer attend this event. Sorry.”

Secondly, if you have several events in a row let’s discuss how to handle them.  Are they at a venue you know?  Will you be able to pick your entree or is it a set menu?  Is it a family gathering at your house or at a relative’s?  Can you contribute some healthy choices to the event?  What is in your control?

For example, Friday evening I am hosting a family gathering I control the food choices available for myself and the guests. I even control some of the drink options.  But, the next night I have a corporate event (I NEED to attend as it is a mandatory work function.) where the menu is set and NOT in my control. What do I do?

For starters, kudos to you for PLANNING!  Friday evening is the perfect event to practice restraint and moderation.  Be an example for your family and friends.  Maybe even introduce some people to new healthier choices for Christmas Treats (see my blog on Raw Chocolate).  The second evening make the best choices you can.  Have fun, let yourself enjoy the night and have a treat GUILT FREE!  These are the holidays and they should be FUN not stress filled and draining!  Be MINDFUL of what you are putting in your mouth (both food and drink) and make a conscious decision as to what you pick as your TREAT for the night.

If you plan and make your food and drink choices before you get to an event you have a much better chance of making it through the Holidays without the worry of fitting into your clothes at the end of the season.

Thanks for reading todays Holiday Health Tip!  I can’t wait to hear your comments on how you think planning will help you make it a healthier holiday season!  Do you have an event that you know you should skip as it’s just going to add stress?  Let me know!
