Candida Cleansing In a Crisis

Week One Complete - Entering Week Two

Week one was my transition week. It was the week I slowly cut back on any sugar and simple carbohydrates in my diet and started adding some anti-microbial foods. I am happy to report that I did not have many effects, meaning I didn’t have any migraine headaches, just minor ones or extreme fatigue, just a bit lower energy. I tried to hydrate as much as possible and I made sure I was getting a little extra sleep on the occasions this was possible.

This week was tough at times, I’m not gonna lie. We had a few treats leftover from Easter that just seemed to call to me from the fridge! My husband has also taken up baking sourdough bread and when it is baking and the smell of freshly baked bread was wafting through my house, it was SO hard not to cut myself a slice. I’m working hard to give up grains altogether and this week the only grains that I consumed were a bit of rice and some homemade hummus.

I added a couple of supplements to help this week too. I’m taking a blend of herbs that I will alternate every week so that the candida never becomes accustomed to them. I am also adding MCT oil to help kill the candida off. I also feel it’s important to increase fiber. I try to do this as much as possible with food but if that’s not possible I add some ground flax seed and psyllium. This extra fiber acts as a brush in the intestines giving my gut a good cleansing. It’s also another reason that increasing my water consumption was SO important this week.

Week two will be a little more strict. I’m now going to be completely sugar-free. This is tough for me as I absolutely LOVE chocolate so I am making a batch of homemade raw chocolate sweetened with stevia leaf. I am also going to cut all fruit and starchy veggies. I am hoping that I won’t feel a drop in energy or any kind of die-off but the possibilities are high. A die-off reaction can show up as headaches, itchy red skin, nausea, fatigue, and more. Sounds pretty similar to the symptoms of candida itself, doesn’t it? The symptoms of candida can sometimes get much worse at this state before they start to improve, plus there can be VERY strong cravings. Cravings for sugar, cravings for carbs, cravings that just don’t seem to be satisfied.

For me, I have already started these crazy cravings. I expect they will get worse. I ate a perfectly awesome, nutritious dinner tonight and for hours now I have been craving. Craving what? That’s the problem, even if I went and ate something I know the cravings would continue. This is the hard part. It’s hard because I don’t know if the cravings will last two days, four days, or for the rest of the week. What I do know, because I have been here before, is that they will end. One day soon I will wake up and will not even think about sugar or simple carbs and that’s when the next stage of this cleanse can begin. For now, I am pushing through and will report back next week for an update on Candida in quarantine.
