Can you see it? Where will you be NEXT January?

The Power of Visualization

January is just about to end and I’m curious about how the first month of the next decade has gone for you? I have made a little headway on my own goals and have put some new ideas into place but to be honest, not much has changed. I’m planning on starting a new program this Monday (again). I have lots of new programs I am going to test out this year and I’m looking forward to sharing them all with you, but honestly, how many times do we need to keep starting over. Is this a pattern for you? Every few months are you starting over again? Trying something new? I do it because it’s my job, but for years I know I was doing it because it was my pattern.

Are you one of those people that set resolutions? Do you write out your goals for the year? Have you set up your action plan? This year I have set, as part of my plan, time to visualize. Every day I close my eyes and I try to picture who and where I want to be the following day, and week, the following month and even next year. This keeps me going, this keeps me working on my plan. It gives me more than just goals to hit, it gives me a picture each day of what life could look like. I have been doing my research though and it turns out visualization is more than just another tool to help me focus. It can change my brain.

When I visualize I try to not just picture my goals, I try to feel what my body will feel like, I try to think thoughts that will be going through my head when my goals are met, and I try to visualize all the changes that will have occurred. I use all five of my senses as much as I can. In order to stop the self-sabotage that sometimes happens it’s important to keep focusing on why you are working so hard and to really feel the emotions and feelings of success. The more you feel these feelings the more you want them! Believe me!

Believe it or not, visualization is not a new technique for reaching goals and manifesting the desired outcome. Athletes have been using the power of visualization for improving results, and scientific studies done on this phenomenon have shown that mental actions can be just as powerful as practicing the actions physically. Visualization can increase your motivation, increase your self-confidence and even your self-efficacy.

Another part of the visualization that I use each year is a vision board. I collect and look at pictures that speak to me about the goals I have set, the emotions I want to feel, the thoughts I want to think and I place that vision board where I am going to see it every single day. That might be hanging over your desk at work, beside your bed to see first thing each morning when you wake and last thing you see each night before you fall asleep, where ever you feel it will make an impact.

When it comes to health and wellness goals like losing that last ten pounds, finally getting to the gym consistently, eating more greens or drinking more water it’s no different. Visualization can be as powerful for us, the everyday person as it is for elite athletes and it works. Taking a few minutes each day to focus on what you want can make all the difference this year. I am planning on it to reach my own goals and I would love to hear how you use visualization in your life. Have you seen more powerful manifestation when using visualization?
